Where My Journey Began
I have been a lifelong fan of photography. Even as a child, I loved looking at photos in books. I especially adored the TIME series in my junior school library. My teacher kindly let me spend hours there.
It did not matter what the subject was. The photographs transported me into another world. I felt as if I was right there. I was in the middle of a jungle, a desert, or floating high above the earth.
My First Cameras
My very first camera was a disposable one from a slot machine. I got it on a holiday in Skegness with my father. I cannot remember if I ever collected the prints from the chemist. It was over 50 years ago, after all! However, I vividly remember the excitement of taking the pictures.
I had caught the photography bug. For Christmas in 1967, I asked for a proper camera.

I received a Halina Paulette Electric. It came with a bulb flashgun, a case, a battery-powered slide viewer, and a roll of Kodachrome 25 film. I had so much enjoyment from it. Remarkably, I still have those original slides today.
From Film to Digital
In the early days, I mainly shot colour slide film like Kodachrome and Agfachrome. Later, I moved on to SLRs with interchangeable lenses. I began printing my own work, switching to black and white or colour negative film. When I worked freelance, I went back to slides because magazine publishers preferred them.
Over the decades, I used brilliant film cameras like the Yashica FRII, Canon EOS, Contax, and Mamiya. Today, I still keep a few old cameras just to use their excellent lenses on modern digital bodies.
